This month I thought we might go over streamlining the navigation of Windows a little bit. Windows can be a very confusing maze for a lot of new, sometimes even seasoned, users. However, one feature alone can help simplify life and make navigation a little easier within Windows, and that is the right click of the mouse button.
First, let me express that I am a right-handed individual, so for those lefty’s out there…you may have this featured configured as a left click option. Either way, the right click feature on the mouse provides an options menu for the most common tasks that users are trying to accomplish within Windows. It is also an options menu for the specific area of windows in which you have your mouse at the point of clicking. This is such an important feature because most of the time, your common needs CAN be accomplished through the right click of the mouse.
Some of the most common uses for this feature are cut, copy and paste. You can also deploy office applications from anywhere within Windows, as well as change certain Windows settings, such as screen display and size.
The right click feature is also a great learning tool for finding new and interesting things within Windows. Many people live by the “when in doubt, right click” mentality! Although users may not always find the answer with this feature, it is a GREAT place to start, and usually does offer some insight about what is available in the future for the area in which they are currently right clicking.
So, take a few minutes and right click your way through Windows. See what kind of new features you might find that would previously take you 5 or 6 clicks, and now can be done with just one (1)! Who knows, you may find yourself giving the next month’s worth of tips and tricks to users in your office, just with this feature alone!
