Sonny's broad IT skills are complemented by a B.S. in History and a Law Degree. This rare multidiscipline combination of expertise allows Sonny to tackle problems that other technologists could never attempt. Sonny's background in Law made it possible for him to implement the first ever Student/Faculty network for Faulkner University and Jones School of Law. Sonny's responsibilities on that project included network administration, network design and implementation, faculty support, security analysis, and desktop support. In addition to handling the specific needs of the network, Sonny also served as liaison between the faculty and IT department. This project required a technologist with an intimate understanding of the Law and Law School. Therefore, Sonny's rare combination of skills made him the perfect man for the job.
Sonny tells us he first developed an interest in computers during the summer of 1982, when he was hired to run punch cards through a computer at his grandfather's drugstore. From that point forward Sonny was obsessed with learning all he could about how computers worked, as he spent every following summer working for his grandfather to learn the in and outs of computer technology. Sonny left for college in the fall of 1989, and graduated in 1994 with his first degree, a B.S. in History. In the fall of 1994 Sonny started Law School, which led to his first real IT job in 1996, when he became associated with the company that was contracted to handle the IT needs and network security for the Law School that Sonny was attending
1996 is also the year Sonny married his wife, Shannon. Sonny and Shannon now reside in Montgomery, Alabama with their three children, Neal Franklin, II (7), Mary Frances (4) and Lillian Erin (2). Sonny cites his family and his Church as the most important parts of his life. Sonny has been a deacon at University Church of Christ in Montgomery for the past 7 years.
Sonny was born in Athens, Georgia while his father was finishing Pharmacy School at the University of Georgia. Sonny's hobbies include soccer, camping, hiking, spelunking, scuba diving, riding his motorcycle; and most importantly, spending time with his family. Sonny has a strong passion for web design and development, which often keeps him huddled over his computer late into the night, hours after the office closes.
In addition to Sonny's obvious qualifications in network applications dealing in the legal field, he also has specific expertise in security, intrusion detection, spyware, unauthorized remote access, network infrastructure, server configuration, contingency planning and backup procedures.
We are very proud that Sonny has decided that InLine is the place where he can put his impressive abilities to the best use. If your company has a need for Sonny's unique set of skills, we'd be happy to schedule a consultation or have him come by your office to personally introduce himself.
