What are PowerToys? PowerToys add fun and functionality to the Windows experience. They are additional programs that developers work on after a product has been released. We have reviewed all of the PowerToys available for XP and have outlined our top 3 favorites.
PowerToy: Open Command Window Here
This PowerToy adds an "Open Command Window Here" context menu option when “right clicking” on folders under Windows Explorer. This is a great tool for those “old school” DOS junkies that must have a command window from time to time. The real benefit to this utility (versus simply running CMD.EXE) is that it will place you in the folder path that you are clicking on when you run this command…VERY NICE!
PowerToy: Alt-Tab Replacement
When “Alt-Tabbing” with this PowerToy, you will get the added benefit of seeing the icon of the application window you are switching to, as well as seeing a preview of the page. This is very useful if you work with multiple sessions of the same application open and find yourself getting lost in the “Toggle” realm of Windows.
PowerToy: Image Resizer
Last but not least, Image Resizer is our favorite of the utilities! Most of us these days have digital cameras, scanners and/or friends and family that love to send us tons of digital images. However, sometimes the size of these images really puts a burden on network connections and disk space. Well, this PowerToy enables you to resize one or many image files with a single right-click. It couldn’t be easier! You can re-size images up or down to any scale needed (even custom scales). An absolutely great tool for just about every user!
